DAMAC Hills 1

Structural Engineering Concrete - Damac Hills 1

Project Overview

Moduline Engineering Consultancy carried out a structural assessment for the DAMAC Hills 1 – Autograph Collection Villas project in Dubai, focusing on the adequacy of a reinforced concrete slab connection under the actual as-built conditions.

The assessment addressed a construction-related discrepancy involving insufficient overlap between concrete slabs at different elevations. Through the review of existing reinforcement, structural analysis, and verification of flexural and shear capacities, the engineering team evaluated whether the existing structural arrangement satisfied the required design capacity.

This project demonstrates Moduline’s ability to deliver reliable engineering solutions for complex existing structures, ensuring safety, serviceability, and long-term structural performance across Dubai and the UAE.

Engineering Challenge

During construction, an error occurred at the connection between reinforced concrete slabs positioned at different elevations, resulting in insufficient overlap at the connection.

This condition required a detailed structural assessment to determine whether the existing concrete section and reinforcement could adequately resist the applied forces.

The engineering challenge was to evaluate the actual constructed configuration rather than relying solely on the original design assumptions. The slab connection was therefore assessed based on its documented as-built geometry and reinforcement arrangement.

Action Taken: Structural Assessment & Verification

To address the construction discrepancy at the slab connection, Moduline Engineering Consultancy carried out a structural assessment to verify the adequacy of the existing concrete section and reinforcement under the actual as-built conditions.

The assessment involved reviewing available structural drawings and site inspection findings, updating the structural model to reflect the existing slab configuration and thickness, and evaluating the reinforcement and shear capacity at the critical connection.

This assessment reflects Moduline’s expertise in special structural engineering services, , including the evaluation of existing concrete structures and verification of as-built conditions.

As-Built Structural Assessment and Verification

Documentation

The assessment began with a review of the existing reinforcement and as-built conditions using available structural drawings and site inspection findings, it is provided the basis for evaluating the actual slab configuration and identifying the structural parameters relevant to the connection.

Site inspection and technical documentation are also important components of our wider construction supervision and site support services.

Structural Modelling and Analysis

The structural model was updated to reflect the actual slab thickness and as-built conditions. The updated analysis enabled the engineering team to assess the be haviour of the existing slab arrangement and evaluate the structural demands associated with the connection.

The structural modelling and verification process reflects the technical approach applied in our design and engineering consultancy services in Dubai.

Comparison & Result

The results were compared with the reinforcement provided in the constructed slab, confirming that the existing reinforcement satisfied the required structural capacity for the assessed condition.

Shear Capacity Verification at the Slab Connection

As part of the structural assessment for the DAMAC Hills 1 – Autograph Collection Villas project, Moduline Engineering Consultancy carried out a shear capacity verification to evaluate the adequacy of the existing reinforced concrete slab connection under the actual as-built conditions, The verification focused on comparing the design shear force at the critical section with the available shear capacity of the existing concrete section.

Shear Force Extraction

The design shear force at the critical section was obtained from the structural analysis, considering the actual slab configuration and as-built conditions. This step established the shear demand at the connection and provided the basis for evaluating the structural adequacy of the existing section.

Shear Capacity Calculation

The shear capacity was verified based on the actual slab thickness and existing reinforcement, as documented during the structural assessment. The evaluation considered the capacity of the existing reinforced concrete section to resist the applied shear force at the slab connection.

Verification & Result

The applied shear force was found to be within the section’s shear capacity, satisfying the design requirements considered in the assessment. The verification confirmed that the existing slab connection provided adequate shear resistance under the evaluated as-built conditions, supporting the overall structural assessment findings.

This assessment reflects Moduline’s approach to special structural engineering services, including structural analysis and the verification of existing reinforced concrete elements.

Assessment Conclusion

Based on the flexural and shear capacity assessments conducted for the DAMAC Hills 1 project, the existing reinforced concrete section and reinforcement were confirmed to be structurally adequate for the evaluated as-built conditions.

The assessment concluded that the slab connection satisfies the required structural capacity, and no further remedial or strengthening works are required for the assessed condition.
